Women’s Cleats Review: PUMA PWR-C 2.10 FG

PUMA PWR-C 2.10 FG Women's Soccer Cleats

We recently tested the PUMA women’s PWR-C 2.10 FG cleat in a women’s size 9 in the black/regatta/white color scheme.  The women’s cleat is true to size, we recommend ordering the same size PUMA size sneakers and/or cleats you wear.  This cleat was tested on a firm/dry grass field and an artificial turf field.

You’ve most likely seen the other versions of Amy Rodriguez wears the PUMA PWR-C 2.10 Women's Cleats in Whitethe PWR-C worn in the WPS by the league’s top goal scorers, Marta and Amy Rodriguez who both wear the white/dandelion/castlerock color.  You’ve also seen the PWR-C 2.10′s cousin, the PWR-C 1.10 worn during the World Cup, which notably was worn the most by goalkeepers than any other position.

Comfort/Fit
Let’s start with breaking in! At first, the cleats felt tight with thick padding/lining, but immediately started to give and form to my feet. There was one spot on each cleat that seemed to dig into the inside of my ankle. It gave me a light blister on each foot in that spot, but it healed within the same day. The second time wearing the cleats there was not a problem.

PUMA PWR-C 2.10 FG CleatsMy first reaction to the fit of the cleat was the seam on the insole right at the tip of my toes. I was wary about it, but in less than 5 minutes on the field, I barely noticed it. My second reaction was that the cleats felt thick and sock like. It reminded me of my low end softball cleats. The thickness of the cleats became less noticeable as I began moving around. The PWR-C cleats were very comfortable and felt almost like a running shoe. They offered great support as my weight felt very evenly distributed, there was no pressure on any part of my feet. Also, coming from someone with previous knee injuries – I felt very comfortable making cuts with these cleats. My knee wasn’t the slightest bit sore after playing in these on the artificial grass or firm ground field.

Innovation
As you can see in the picture, the stud design is quite uniquePUMA PWR-C 2.10 Women's FG Stud Design for a firm ground shoe. Usually firm ground cleats tend to have 4 studs at the heal, but PUMA is innovative here and adds an extra 2 and all 6 are a slightly different shape from each another. I only slipped twice wearing these and it may have been from a user error – my planting foot slipped while I was taking a free kick when playing on dry firm ground, and I lost my footing when moving backwards on the artificial grass field.

PUMA is also innovative with the placement of the laces and adding their Spring Tech Foam on the sweet spot of the cleats to enhance shooting power.  It was tough to determine if there really was a difference in my shooting power, but the enlarged sweet spot on the cleats was a nice touch and added to ball control.

Value
These cleats are very inexpensive compared to the Men’s version and are average in price compared to other high end women’s soccer cleats. They’re on sale for just $99.99 at soccer.com and may be on sale in your local soccer shop. I would recommend these cleats to any women looking for a quality women’s fitting cleat at a good price.

Improvements/Changes
I have to admit, the style of these cleats in this color is not my cup of tea, but PUMA also created 2 additional color choices probably for just this reason. I would prefer a plain black/white model. I also wasn’t crazy about how thick the cleat felt, I would have preferred a thinner material than the full grain leather. I would recommend wearing thin socks with these cleats.

Summary
The PUMA PWR-C 2.10 women’s cleats are one of the most innovative women’s soccer cleats on the market. The stud design increases stability and support which is great for female soccer players, who are prone to knee injuries.  Also, an athlete’s striking power and accuracy are enhanced with the spring foam technology and the enlarged sweet spot as a result of the side lace design.  I would be interested in comparing these to the men’s version, the PUMA PWR-C 1.10 (which is more expensive, although currently on sale), but for now we can compare it with the review from soccercleats101.
