Get ready to see the Project Pink initiative unleashed in the coming months in a WPS stadium or a television (or computer) screen near you!
The WPS and PUMA take their partnership off the soccer field and to the lives of
everyone who has ever been affected by breast cancer with their Project Pink initiative. PUMA has designed a new match ball and special kits to be worn in select matches this season. The leading sportlifestyle brand will also release a new range of Project Pink merchandise to be sold in WPS stadiums, in select stores, and online starting this summer and continuing through Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. PUMA and the WPS once again think outside the box as they creatively get the fans involved by donating 100% of the proceeds to the most voted nonprofit committed to breast cancer awareness or research. PUMA will launch the Project Pink forum on July 31st at wps.pumafootball.com/projectpink. The nomination period for the breast cancer charity will open on August 7th, voting will start on September 13th, and the winner will be announced in late October.
Five Project Pink matches have been announced which include:
Boston Breakers vs Washington Freedom
July 31 at Harvard Stadium
FC Gold Pride vs Chicago Red Stars
August 7 at Pioneer Stadium
Philadelphia Independence vs Boston Breakers
August 8 at John A. Farrell Stadium
Sky Blue FC vs Washington Freedom
August 11 at Yurcak Field
Washington Freedom vs Sky Blue FC
August 28 at Maryland SoccerPlex
Karina LeBlanc (Philadelphia Independence), Leslie Osborne (Boston Breakers), and Amy Rodriguez (Philadelphia Independence) will serve as spokeswomen for the cause. “As a woman in sports, I always support promoting an active, healthy lifestyle,” LeBlanc explained. “Plus, a number of my close friends and family have been affected by breast cancer. I’m out here doing what I love, and any chance I have to be a part of a project like this to show my passion for what I do and link with a good cause is a no-brainer.”
You can help make a difference just by using Twitter! For every tweet sent with the hash tag #projectpink from July 31st to October 18th, PUMA will donate an additional dollar (up to $25,000) to Project Pink.
